What is Reflexology?Evidence of reflexology has been found with the ancient Egyptians and Chinese; however it became more widespread during the 20th Century. Reflexology was brought to the UK in 1966 by Doreen Bailey. Reflexology is a holistic therapy that commonly takes place on the feet but can also be carried out on the hand. It is based on the principal that the body is mirrored on the feet and that pressing the corresponding areas can help the body. The treatment stimulates nerve endings and can aid in unblocking energy by working through zones of the foot. Regular reflexology treatments balance the whole person to support health and reduce the effects of everyday stresses. I have completed additional training in Reflexology and Children, further information can be found in the Children section.
What to ExpectA consultation is always necessary before a reflexology treatment. Once a consultation has been completed you will lie on a couch or sit in a chair that is moved backwards to allow me to work on your feet. I will cover your other foot with a towel when I am not working on it. Many people are concerned about reflexology if they have ticklish feet; this is because we are unaccustomed to people touching our feet and the area tends to be more sensitive than areas frequently exposed to the elements. Reflexology uses a firm pressure and some sensitivity may be a reflection of the corresponding body representation, or it may be just the natural reaction for you. To allow you to feel fully relaxed I will not begin any conversations. Only talk if you wish to but please do not feel obliged.
