What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing system that was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the
19th Century. The system was originally taught as a method for personal
growth but since then it has evolved to become a self healing system
and one that practitioners use to promote healing in others.
Reiki has been taught in the West since the 1970’s and is a healing and
relaxation method that helps to promote a balance of chi (energy). Reiki
does not include any oils or massage; hands are gently placed on or just
above your body in order to encourage the flow of chi through your body.
The intention is to harmonize your energy system, release energy blockages
and encourage your body to heal itself on all levels: physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual. Reiki is a system that goes beyond the physical
and linear time constraints, allowing practitioners to offer distant
healing and send reiki to situations in the future.
What to Expect
This treatment can take place in a chair or couch and you remain fully
clothed. If using a couch, you will lie on your back for the duration of
the treatment. During the treatment I place my hands gently on or above
your body to channel energy to the areas of your body. I usually begin
around the shoulders or head and slowly work my way down the body, paying
particular attention to areas I am drawn to. The energy will be drawn to
provide your body with the healing it needs and encourage your body to
unblock its energy centres. During the course of the treatment you may feel
‘tingling’ sensations, heat, sense colours or experience a feeling of well
being and calm.
